Revolution Win First State Cup Game 1-0

The Revolution hosted the Massapequa Spirit for the first round of State Cup competition.

The Revs took it to Massapequa and set up shop in their end. with marshmellows roasting and the Revs pounding their defenses, it only appeared to be a matter of time before we scored. Abeautiful cross followed by a miss. Another good pass and another miss. A great cross and yes... another miss. It became halftime and the score was 0-0. We completely controlled the match but have failed to finish.

The girls were told to keep the pressure and do a bit better job of finishing and the game is theirs for the taking. The second half looked a lot like the first. Chance after chance without a score. We were starting to get a little worried. We actually needed to score to win and Massapequa actually got close a couple times. Then a foul outside the left end of the box gave us a free kick about 25 yards away. A beautiful kick to the far post where a great header into the net followed by our center mid gave us the much needed goal and a 1-0 lead. Then the pressure continued. Anice cross and a missed volley by another midfielder. A couple nice crosses and a couple very close calls and a nice save. Still only 1-0 and with just a couple minutes left Massapequa had a great chance but missed. We hung on for the victory 1-0.

A good start to the State Cup. A victory is a victory. Good to move on. The domination was there and hopefully the finishing will be a little more accurate in the future. Great job girls!!
